Abstract In this article, we present a dynamic model for generic drill-string. The is developed with the intention component-based simulation coupling to external subsystems. performance of drill-string vital in terms efficient wellbore excavation increased hydrocarbon extraction. Drill-string vibrations limit rotary drilling; phenomenon well known and still subject interest academia industry. study, have nonlinear flexible based on Lagrangian dynamics simulate during vibrations. incorporates governed by lateral bending, longitudinal motion, torsional deformation. elastic property string modeled assumed mode method, representing deformation, finite set modal coordinates. By developing bond graph from equations can ensure correct causality toward interacting analyzed through extensive simulations case studies, comparing qualitative behavior state-of-the art models. presented article aid system studies parameter identification offshore drilling operations.
